Back in 2014, while cycling through the sun-drenched roads of Spain, I met a kindred spirit—Norman (aka Normski), a fellow German cycle tourer with a big smile and an even bigger appetite for adventure. We hit it off instantly and pedalled together for a stretch along the east coast, eventually joined by another German traveller, Renas. The three of us shared a brilliant rhythm—cycling, camping, swapping stories under the stars. It was one of those rare travel chapters that felt effortless and unforgettable.

Fast forward to 2023, during my European cycling loop, I made it a point to reconnect with both Norman and Rênas. Time hadn’t dulled a thing—it was as if we’d never parted. Norman introduced me to his partner Melanie, a passionate traveller in her own right. Together, they were deep into preparations for their own epic journey: a van-powered adventure to Cape Town. They built and converted the van themselves, pouring heart and grit into every detail.
